Baking Cakes and Making Miniatures for The Coffee Corner

Hello folks,

Late evening for me today. I hope you are all enjoying the weekend. Here in Malta it is really getting hot and I can say that summer is here. At the moment I am really busy preparing for my son's 1st Holy Communion. It is a very special occasion for us.  I wanted to welcome two new followers of my Blog Elizabeth and Susan. Welcome.

Just a reminder that for the month of June I am offering a small give a way. The lucky winner will be announced on 30th June. You just have to be a follower on this blog and comment to participate. The winner will receive a lovely ceramic miniature milk plate set.

Today I will be sharing with you some of the miniatures that I have been making for my Coffee Corner Shop. My head is exploding with ideas and I just can't keep up with them. Any way the first few miniatures that I wanted to do where actually some decorative ceramics such as plates, cups and saucers and a few cake plates. I have managed to design the ceramics with the shop's logo. Most coffee shops have their ceramics decorated with the shop's logo so I gave it a try and they worked.

One important piece that I really wanted but couldn't find was an actual coffee machine. The coffee machine that I wanted was something that looked like an antique. I have searched for it everywhere but I couldn't find and so I had to improvise and make one myself. I have searched for some pictures. It is not a samovar. Even if I would love to add one of those too.

I have made this coffee machine with buttons, cardboard, copper wire and some jewelry findings. I still can't believe that it came out as good as this.  I am very happy how it turned out.

Then the baking started. Once again my polymer clay came out and for the first time I made cakes. Believe it or not yes these are my first cakes made out of polymer clay. I first started with the small pastries which I really enjoyed making.

After the first try I went to try and make some nice cakes. I have made a coffee cake, a lemon cake, strawberry sponge, cheese cakes, black forest, profiteroles and eclairs . I have cut section from the cake to serve them in small plates.

Apart from the good yummy stuff. I wanted to add some sweets, some tins and boxes. I have covered some tins with vintage labels of milk, cocoa, fruit and coffee. I have down sized them and printed them.

I have also filled some jars with candy made out of polymer clay and I have printed some boxes which would have fitted in for the scene like tea boxes and flour.

My father finished painting one of my favorite pieces. The old style cash register. I just love the detail of it all. I have added the display tags just like the old versions and have filled the tilt with money.

To add to the register I also made a glass jar filled with coins. This is to go next to the cash register for the tips.

So this is what I have been doing so far. I just can't wait to start filling up the shop with them all. There is still so much that I want to add.

Hope you like what I have done so far. So do keep tuned for my next update.

Take Care and see you real soon.

Hugs

  2. Hi Rebecca! I have to say that I am very impressed with your working cash register and the tiny bits of currency that is in the drawer! Great detail! I bet you had fun making your coffee machine too! It is very gratifying when you can make your own accessories. Your cakes and pastries look like they were lots of fun to do as well as your canned goods which are very well aged and authentic looking. :D
