The Parlour in The Master Swordsman Pub & Inn

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all fine and had a great weekend. Finally it seems that Summer is approaching. After a couple of gloomy weeks, in the past two days, it was quite warm and sunny. Can't wait for my warm Summer. Some would disagree with me, but I have always been a Summer person.

Finally I got to work on the last room of the Master Swordsman Pub & Inn. There is still so much to do and add in the other rooms but I always tend to finish the essentials before I go into detail.  The last room for this building is The Parolur. Thinking about it!!... What was this room all about after all? Parlor game is a group game played indoors. The Victorian era was most certainly the Golden Age of the Parlor game and was extremely popular among the upper and middle classes.  When guests were invited for parties, teas and other occasions, these games, were most definitely played in the best room of the house which in this case was the Parlour hence the name.

I had a few ideas for this room and the one thing that I was definitely not sure of was the staircase. As much as I love these spiral staircases, I just didn't like how it was positioned and surly wasn't going to look the best for a Parlour. My first solution was covering the under stairs with a wall. book case, with anything that I could think of. I just didn't want to see underneath the staircase.

Another problem with the room was that there was already a big chunk of floor missing because of the opening of the staircase, so I had to be very careful how to go about it. When I was quite sure of what I had in mind for the room I started working on the lighting of the rooms below.

Once that was done and settled, I started taking measurements to add a wall to cover the staircase which would have a door leading to another room.....(don't ask me where it would lead because I don't have any idea) ...at least it would give the impression of more depth I would say to the building, and next to the door I went for a small book.

Before I could continue working I had to work on the staircase, adding the posts, spindles and railings.

It was brought to my attention that the staircase needed something more....a carpet!!! Why a carpet??? It took me hours to do. I knew that this was going to be quite a challenge especially with that type of staircase. Actually I used two different carpeting which I scraped when it came to do the turns, then finally the third carpet was the best! To add a bit more to the challenge as I was still not convinced of the carpet, I did a few rods with some thick wiring. The results at the end were definitely worth the frustration.

Once the staircase was settled I wall papered the remaining walls and also did the flooring. Just like the previous rooms I added the wooden trimmings in the staircase.

After all that, I had to start working on the wall that would cover part of the staircase. I used thick cardboard and wood to build it and covered it using the same wall paper. The book case was mostly covered leaving the shelves visible.

I couldn't wait to see this wall in place and I was so happy with the end result. It completed the room perfectly. Here are a few pictures of how the room looks like so far.

Hope you like what I have done so far.

There is still so much that I want to add to the room. I have so many ideas for it now and I can't wait to continue working on it, so make sure to keep tuned for the next update on the progress of this project.

Take Care and See You Soon.

Hugs,

Rebecca xxx
