The Final touches outside J.R. Art Gallery

Another weekend has gone by. The weather is still pretty warm and nice here. Hope you are all feeling well and had a great weekend. Like always I have been very busy in the last few weeks mostly in the office at my work. Haven't done much on the gallery but I finally got to finish the outside of the building.

Even if I have been working inside J.R, for quite some time, the outside wasn't complete yet mainly because of the lighting of the same building. 

While decorating the private quarters of the artist I realized that I didn't work according to the original plans that I had for it at the beginning and eventually because of the slight change the chimney had to be moved to the side. Originally the chimney was meant to be at the back on the roof, In my first sketches the fire place had to be placed instead of the wardrobe.  

Because I moved the furniture pieces inside, I had to make a slight change to the roof. I like my chimneys to be placed exactly over the fireplaces. They look more realistic like that. I wasn't afraid to alter the roof because I had a clear picture of how to go about it. 

The first thing that I did was brick the chimney and weather the whole thing. The Chimney was not part of  the kit but I thought it was a good thing to add especially after adding the stove.

After taking the measurements I tore through the roof tiles using a craft's knife so the chimney could fit in.  I was very pleased that on the first attempt the chimney slide in it's place perfectly. 

I also added more detail to the chimney so it could match the roof and instead of using lead, once again I used foil and weathered it with paint. 

 

This is how the complete roof is now. 

Another problem that I faced from the start was the joining of the two buildings together. The problem occurred because I bricked the building. Strangely enough I had this very slim strip that went around the whole building which was un-bricked. Practically it was the ceiling of the gallery and the flooring of the private quarters of the artist when joined together. It didn't look neat at all. After all the lights were installed and placed I had to find away to brick it.

So I masked taped the outside walls and with the same brick compound. I covered the remaining pieces which was very tricky. 

When the compound was dry I weathered it to match the walls. The outdoor staircase that leads to the artist's private quarters was far from ready. I still had to add a small wall at the back and finish the staircase landing. Just like the staircase I plastered the landing and placed the small wall.

When the plaster was dry I weathered the floor to match the staircase and continued weathering the walls. 

I was happy with the results and finally I sealed the under-stair's wall in place for good.

The window sills were a bit bare. I thought about adding flower pots but I didn't like them in place so instead I made two pigeons with polymerclay. 

Finally I connected all the lights in place and everything seems to be perfect.

I'm pleased with the outcome and now I can concentrate on the inside. Keep tuned for the next update on the J.R. Art Gallery.
