The Toll House - My 4th Dolls House

Hello Everyone,

Today I will be sharing with you my forth dolls house which is called The Toll House. This was also a Dolls House Emporium kit which has been discontinued for a couple of years.

Building this house was extra fun as before starting even building it I had to figure out what was exactly a 'Toll House' and what where it's purposes.

Mainly the Toll Houses where found in England, Wales and Scotland during the 18th and 19th Centuries. The Toll House was a building to accommodate the toll collector. These where built near the toll gates where travelers used to pay the toll when crossing a channel or boarder. The distinctive bay windows where built to give the pike man a clear view of the road and provide a display area for the toll board. There where 5000 toll houses operating in England.

After learning all this I built my toll house to fit the scene.  Sometimes travelers had to pay the toll by vegetables or with other supplies that they possessed instead of money.

So here is my toll house.

The Pavilion and The Bride

Hello everyone,

I hope that you are all well. I want to thank those for leaving kind comments and I would like to give a warm welcome to the new followers of my blog. It's very encouraging.

Today I will be sharing with you a small project that I have made which is called The Pavilion. This is a Dolls House Emporium Kit which has been discontinued a few years ago. I had purchased this for my miniature bride that I have dressed up myself.

With this bride I had entered in the  'Dress the Bride Competition' organized by the Dolls House Emporium. I was classified with the first 5 entries which was great!. In this link  you can find more details of how the dress was made and more photos will lots of details.  http://www.dollshouseblog.com/2010/05/28/a-most-beautiful-bride/

So this is all for today. Wishing you all a very nice weekend. Keep tuned as I have still more to share.

Matquel's Antiques & China Shop - My 3rd Dolls House

Hello Everyone,

Hope that you are all well. It has been a while since my last post but I try my best to keep you updated. I have started a new project which I will be sharing with you very soon.

Today I will be sharing with you my 3rd Dolls House Matquel's Antiques & China Shop. This dolls house is a Dolls House Emporium Kit which originally was called O' Rourkey's Post Office. There is quite some history with this dolls house as it took me quite some time to complete and finish.

This kit was given to me as a gift from my darling husband Gilbert for bringing our first baby Matthias into the world. I was really looking forward to start working on it. Before starting building a kit, I usually start collecting furniture and accessories to put them in the dolls house. As this was going to be transformed into a China Shop there where quite a lot of pieces to get for it.

With a new born baby my hobby was on hold or let's say had slowed down, but I wasn't bothered at all as I was still collecting the necessary items,  planning the color scheme to fit my Victorian Era.
Any how after a year of waiting I decided to go for it only that I got pregnant again with my second child which slowed me down even more. To cut to the chase after my little princess Raquel was born, and as she was a very good baby I've realized that I could dedicate some time for my hobby. I only needed an hour a day which was really fun.

While building the house I realized that the Dolls House kit was discontinued and that some items and furniture where no longer on the market so it was perfect to turn the shop into an Antique and China Shop. Then the name 'Matquel's' came to me like a bolt. Matquel is a combination of both my babies names Matthias and Raquel and so the shop's name turned up to be 'Matquel's Antique and China Shop' .

It took me 3 months to built and complete it. It was fun as both Matthias and Raquel saw me through it and it was worth the wait.

You can also see the small video of this dolls house that I have made on You Tube which was used for 'May The Best House Win' 2011 Competition which I won last summer. Here is the link on DHE's blog http://www.dollshouseblog.com/2011/08/05/may-the-best-house-win-results/

I hope you all like it.

Please keep in touch as I have more to share.
