1930's Bed Room for Tudor Manor

Hello everyone,

Once again we came to an end to another month. Time does fly by and soon we will be saying goodbye to Summer. I have been very busy with the kids as soon it will be time for them to go to school and start another new scholastic year. This  year it won't only be Matthias and Raquel to go, even my darling little Leah will start her kinder garden. It is so hard sending the little ones off.

I wanted to tell you that My Miniature World Group on Face Book has reached over 400 members. It is a very nice group where everyone can share their miniature creations and dolls house projects. I also wanted to thank all those wonderful persons that like and follow My Miniature World Face Book page. We have reached over 6,000 likes. Thank you so much for your encouragement.

Today I will be sharing with you something that I am really looking forward to work on even though it is not my next project.

1930's Bedroom

Like you all know the Tudor Manor is very special too me, especially knowing that it has the same age as I do and was built by the founders of The Dolls House Emporium. What makes it special that it has a vintage style and I just couldn't imagine something modern in it. So I thought about a 1930's -40's will fit in perfectly.

Some how you don't find the right pieces that you want or you imagine. I have done a lot of research and what I liked was real furniture and not miniature.  

The only person that came to my mind was Elizabeth from Elf Miniatures. It wasn't the first time that we worked together and definitely it won't be the last. I simply emailed Elizabeth and showed her two pictures of bedroom furniture that I wanted. I asked her if it was possible that if she could design them for me in miniatures.

Elizabeth, a wonderful person that she is, responded in a heart beat and the answer was a simple "Yes". After several emails with dimensions and working together, she started working on the kits. I was positively sure that I would be happy as a bunny, Elizabeth never let me down. During a few weeks she showed me step by step each piece that she was working on and if I was satisfied with the style and look. They where just perfect and they where even better than I imagined them.

Finally the day came when I got all the kits by post. Elizabeth sent me the knew instructions by email which were very easy to follow.

 Piece by piece I started assembling them and staining them.

Every piece was cut perfectly and matching. It took me a few days to finish as I wanted them to be perfect as much as possible.

When all pieces were done I started working on the bedding for the bed. I had to make the mattress, sheets and pillows.

 I didn't know what I was going to use to make the bedspread and I found out that in the 1930's they used a lot of lace to cover their beds. I got out my hook and started crochet a bedspread for the bed.

I am no expert in crochet but I do know some  basic stitches and the basic afghan pattern. It took me a few days to finish it off but it was worth it.

Then it was time to see how the whole room will look together and it couldn't get any better than this. I have added some nice hand painted pieces that I did and also my father which fitted the era.

Elizabeth did a fantastic job and she loved how this bed room turned out. My bed room has also been featured on Elf Miniatures facebook page and also on their website. 

I am also pleased that through this project Elf Miniatures now have this new range available on their website.

I wanted to thank Elizabeth  for being fantastic with her clients and giving her very best. Working with her I also got to know her personally. I am looking forward to our next project together.

No 35, Leah's is finally complete.

Hello my dear friends.

Hope you are all well and doing fine. It has been quite a stressful few days but I think I am managing.

Today I will be sharing with you the last post of this project. Miss Leah has moved into her new home and I just can't believe that this has come to an end.

So as we came to the end of Miss Leah's new home, I have made a miniature Diary that belongs to Miss Leah. I have collected all her diary entries and turned it into a journal which was printed and added it to her bed room.

 Firstly I wanted to share Miss Leah's Bed room and her new additions. There was still some work to do in this room. I have added some framed pictures to the wall. Some how they do make a huge difference.

On top of the little desk I added a hanging book case and filled it with books which looks just right for the desk.

I then started adding accessories to the little desk. My father hand painted the little ink set for the desk and it fitted in perfectly.

I have also made a little night gown for Miss Leah and placed it on her bed.

I have added a blanket chest and decorated it with the same wall paper pattern that also matches her cupboard,

Accessories where also added to the room like the little dog bed for Lulu. She is very happy to be sleeping next to her madam.

And so the bed room has been complete.

 Like I told you I still added something small to the living room. I have made a small bar of soap and dish cloth which I made out of a man's shirt and added it to the sink.

And here is the final entry from Miss Leah's Diary.

15 th August 1880

Dear Diary,

It has been almost a week since I moved in my new home. It is good to have room where to put all my things without worrying about space. It is good to be independent, looking after your own belongings, sleeping in my own bed. The first few days were quite hard. I missed the company of Quelina, waking up to the smell of her breakfast and chatting with her. I am glad that Lulu is here with me. The little thing has settled in lovely. I guess she was used to the home already. She slept in her basket without any problems.

Even though Quelina and I live in a separate house, she definitely made it a point that we won’t lose sight of each other. Every single morning before she opens the shop she pops in to make sure that I am up and not running late. In the afternoon we go shopping together groceries and even stop for some tea at Manuel’s. In the evening we have dinner together, mainly at her house. I think she is afraid of eating my food.

Today I surprised her. I asked to come over to help me out and when she came she found the dining table set for a small tea party between sisters. It was a small celebration for the new house as I wouldn’t have done it without her. We had sponge, scones, sandwiches and jam tarts. She loved it. Now I hope that she can trust me with food. Matty is away in Madrid. I am sure he would have loved it. Father will come over for my birthday which is round the corner. I hope that Matty will be here. I might throw a small party for them and a few friends.

I have been drawing some new designs for new gowns. Madam De France will have to see these. Her opinion has always been fruitful.  So this is all for tonight as tomorrow I have quite a day travelling to the Manor House. We will be having lots of adventures.

So once again I am closing another chapter. I will be missing this project very much indeed as it's been a year since I started the boutique, but I am looking forward to start my new one.

Miss Leah won't be saying good bye to us. We will get to meet her with her friends and family in Regent Street.

Completing the living room for Miss Leah's new home

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all well and enjoyed your weekend. On the whole I can say that I am fine and enjoying the summer. Very busy like always but I guess that is no news! Who isn't? The past week we had quite a heat wave and on Saturday out of nowhere one minute it was sunny and the next we had one huge thunder storm with two tornadoes. It was out of this world and quite scary. Yesterday it was just like all the other summer days; hot and sunny. I think Mother Nature went on vacation last Saturday.

So today I will be sharing with you the completed living room of Miss Leah.

So today I will be sharing with you what I have been up to with the living room, Being a one room which consist of a kitchen/living/dinning you have to be very careful how to decorate it. You don't want it to make it too much like a kitchen or make it look to formal. I think I went for the nice and simple touch. The back was turned mainly like a kitchen but still looks rich and the front more like a living area. 

I have gotten one of the open cabinets in bare wood which I painted matching the sink, stairs, cornice and skirting. I added some of the necessary accessories that you find in a kitchen. I also made some hooks out of jewelry wire and add them to one of the shelves for my miniature ceramic cups that I made.

The kitchen range and the mantel still needed more accessories so first I decorated the mantel piece with some Victorian style pieces. the small frames where done by me.

I have added some of my own hand painted accessories to the range like the kettle, the hanging kettle, griddle with spatula and the roasting dish. They just fitted the range perfectly and I just love it.

Next to range on the left there is the hand made sink. I finally added the faucet, a hanging shelf and copper accessories. I will probably still be adding more to it; maybe a bar of soap and dish cloth.

I have also carpeted the staircase which matches the carpet in the living room. As the stairs are slightly narrow the rods wouldn't fit in and it would have been a shame to cut them off so I added some tick gold plated pins  instead.  I have printed some nice pictures to frame them in the oval frames.

Underneath the stairs I have added a side hall table. I have added some accessories including my fruit bowl and looks just great there.

Near the little Victorian hutch where I have a dinner set displayed I have printed two more painting and framed them off. Sometimes just a few frames makes such a difference to empty walls.

I have also set up the lovely tea party on the dinning table. So I think the room is pretty much all done and ready. For a one room it have everything. So here are some pictures of the whole room.

I hope you like what I have done in this room. I might add some more minis and fix the furniture better but it is pretty much ready. Here is Miss Leah's diary entry for today. 

10th August 1880

Dear Diary,

It has been almost a year since I moved to Regent Street. Time does fly and so much has happened. I am completely tired out and at the same time very excited. I have been very busy with the boutique this summer. There seems to be a ball every week. The boutique has picked up so much in the last months.

Today will be the last time that I will write to you from my sister's room. Yes today will be the last night that I will stay with Quelina. Tomorrow I will be moving in my new home. Everything has been set up in it's place. The kitchen is quite stocked and everything is waiting for me and Lulu. I only have two suit cases with some clothes and personal stuff. Quelina is very quiet and I can imagine why. Quelina has always been a mother hen and for me to leave her imaginary nest is not going down so well. I keep on reminding her that when she moved out from the Manor house she was the one to leave me and not the other way round. I keep on telling her that I am practically next door to her, that we can open a door in the wall and combine the houses. That is how far we are apart. Can you believe how silly she is being? If I had to call out from my window she can hear me. I promised her that we will be eating dinner together at each other houses every single day and we will take turns. I know I feel pretty much the same and she makes me feel so guilty. I will miss her a lot but it is not fair on her. I took so much of her space. It has been a year since I moved in her home and we have grown so close like when we were kids. 

She is thinking of renovating the shop which I think would be a great idea. It does need some freshening up. I will always be there to help her out. Regent Street seems to grow and I can see at least two more shops ready to open so it will be good for Matquel's to be refurbished. 

Tomorrow you will be staying on a new desk in my new bedroom. You don't have to worry you will be joining me tomorrow in the suit case.
