'Closing Curtains' for the Fairy's Nook!

Hello my dear friends,

It has been a long week and I still can't believe that the Fairy's Nook is finally finished. Another project comes to it's end. It does make me feel sad especially when you are enjoying it. But then I always look forward to a new one. I also wanted to welcome two new followers of my blog; Whinsy and Deborah. Welcome!

So here is the Fairy's Nook! The last time that I blogged, I posted about the completion of The Fairy's Garden Open Air Theater. Today I will be showing you the upper room fully decorated will unusual pieces. Being a Fairy's room I wanted to add something a bit different than the usual miniatures. I wanted to add some full size pieces. I don't know how I am going to explain this. Usually fairies are much smaller than us humans. In this miniature project I wanted that the human world takes part in it. My little Fairy Brier is quite a collector of human lost things.

I first made the furniture for the room. I first started with the fire place which I made out of balsa wood and painted it. Then I did the little table and stool. I painted it with forest colors. The fairy's bed was made out of flower petals and soft moss. Then I started adding some human lost things like screws, buttons, coins, safety pins, old thimbles, wooden thread spools, a pocket watch, lens, old stamps, children's wooden toy blocks, nuts and wild berries.

I have also made some polymer clay miniatures for the Fairy's Nook like small canisters, tea set and fairy's food. I have made some tools and small fairies for the scene. For the windows I used woven sack material. They where the right size to be used as curtains. 

Adding lights was quite a problem. I really didn't know what I was going to add. I have found this floor lamp and adapted it for a fairy.  First I painted it then I added some petals around the shade to make it look like flowers.

Piece by piece I managed to fill in this good sized room. All the pieces that I wanted to add, fitted in perfectly. Fairy Brier looks very happy. Here are some pics of the whole finished room.

Finishing The Fairy's Garden Open Air Theater!

Hope you are all well and enjoying your weekend! Today I will be very brief as I have lots of pictures to show you. 

Today I will be showing you the finished Fairy's Garden Open Air Theater. This is the open air space that is just right under The Fairy's Nook. I really don't know how it all came to this. Building it piece by piece just made it perfect. I always pictured it in my head that it would look something similar to this, only that it came even better. After finishing it I decided that it was the perfect Fairy's Garden Open Air Theater. It is the perfect place where in the morning the Fairies meet and young ones play and in the evening they meet to sing, dance and tell stories.

Firstly I started by covering the ground with chopped moss. I used different shades and blended in the colors. Then I added the big flowers. I had a couple of flower heads and added the steam and leaves.

On one of the sides, I have made the steps out of these flowers which lead to the upper Fairy's room. I really didn't like the idea of adding a stair case. It didn't make any sense at all in this project especially when we all know that fairies can fly. So now any fairy or small fairy creature can leap from one flower to another to go to the upper room.

When I was happy with the outcome, I continued adding flowers of different sizes. I added flower garlands around each arch. I also added some pebbles that I got from the beach. Made some toad stools out of polymer clay. I bought some battery powered fairy lights for the ceiling which are usually used for Christmas decorations. To complete the scene I added my three fairies which fitted in perfectly. I had these fairies for years. I remember that they where a small gift from my husband. The size of the fairies where just right. They where just meant for this project.

I hope that you have liked what I have done so far. I still can't believe that this project is almost at it's end. 

I have also made a miniature Fairy's Garden in a basin which will fit in perfectly for a dolls house garden. It has a Fairy Toad Stool house, a small bench, a stone path way and a pond. Most of it is made with polymer clay. You can find it listed in my Etsy shop My Miniature World Shop

The Creation of Fairy Brier!

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend. I still can't believe that we are in August. Time flies when you are enjoying it especially with the kids at home. 

Today I will be sharing with you the garden fairy that will be residing in the Fairy's Nook. I love adding dolls to my properties. Makes the houses look more lived in. As this project is based on a fairy's dwelling it is only appropriate to have a fairy doll in it. It is so difficult to find a 12th scale fairy. Most of them you find them made out of ooak which are very expensive. I came across this undressed elfish doll and she was very cheep. I could already imagine her in my Fairy's Nook.

 Most garden fairies are dressed in leaves or flower petals so I found this velvety artificial rose steam which had some nice colors and would have fitted in perfectly for what I planned. As I used the rose petals to dress her up it was only fair that the Fairy would be named after a Rose. So I choose Brier. Brier is a wild rose which has very small thorns.

 First I started by making her undies to hide the pipe cleaner legs. I used a pink piece of velvet which fitted in perfectly with the rose petals. Then I started dressing up the doll. Firs I started with the bodice and then the skirt. Once those where ready I did her sleeves and added some matching trimming to it. On the skirt I have also used some leaves. I was very pleased with the out come.

 Then came another challenge; the wigging of the doll. Even if I dressed a couple of dolls, I never really actually wigged one. The doll came without any hair. I had some curly golden hair which I had used for a past Christmas decoration and I thought that it would have suited her skin tones perfectly. She was not easy to wig as the hair was curly. But I love curly hair myself and she being named after a wild rose; wild, uncontrollable curly hair was my best option for her.   After wigging her I added a small floral wreath for her hair which matched her dress.

 I am happy how she turned out, then the final touches where to add the wings. I have used gold plated craft wire, some netting material and glue. First I painted the net in gold acrylic paint. Then I made the wings with the wiring. I glued the wire to the net and repainted everything. Then I added some touches of glitter around the wings. When the wings where dried I just fitted in the extra wiring of the wings between her bodice and her back.

 I was very pleased how she turned out. To be honest I was very surprised how good she looked. Here are some pictures of Fairy Brier. I hope you like her.
