The Kitchen in The Traditional Dolls House

Hello everyone,

Hope you all had a great week. I am so looking forward to another weekend. I will continue working on my Pembroke Grange. Last weekend I have tiled the whole roof. Still lots to do on the outside of the house.

Today I will be giving you an update on The Traditional Dolls House. The girls have completed the kitchen and for their first time decorating one, it looks gorgeous.

The Kitchen in The Traditional Dolls House

The girls have quite a good taste and it was great hearing them choose the miniatures together to add to the kitchen. They asked for pots and pans. Plates, cutlery, glasses and mugs.

We got to work on a few miniature food pieces with polymer clay and they enjoyed being with me while working on them.

They have spotted that the kitchen sink didn't have any taps for the water to run. It surprised me to see that they were looking for tiny details to make it look realistic. I gave them some glass jars and they filled them up with all sorts of mini food. They wanted their favorite soft drink 'Coke' So they got a whole crate of that.

Here are some more photos of the welcoming kitchen.

The girls tend to enjoy playing with this room. Apparently the dolls are always hungry. I think they did an amazing job.

Will be sharing with you some more updates on  the rooms in the Traditional Dolls House.

Also for those who haven't noticed, Posy has been on another adventure. She has Discovered Mummy's Old Dolls House and she has so much to share. Visit Posy The Tiny Bear Blog to see more.

Make sure to keep tuned for the next update on the blog. Very soon I will be sharing with you the on going progress of Pembroke Grange.

Take Care and See You Soon.

The Study in The Traditional Dolls House

Hello Everyone,

Hope you all had a great weekend. Here in Malta it's getting really hot, temperatures reaching the 40 degrees Celsius. Thank goodness the kids are off from school. Although it is hot, I wouldn't want it any different.

This weekend my little Leah and I continued working on The Traditional Dolls House. As she is off on her summer break she tends to follow me wherever I go and by that she enjoys spending her time among the dolls houses. I love her company and the fact that I am doing work on my projects, she enjoys working on her own dolls house.

For the past few days we have completed the study within the Traditional Dolls House.

I have to say I think my little Leah enjoys this particular little room. I am constantly seeing her peeking into the Study or as Leah calls it "My Room!" Indeed it is her room because there is quite a lot of her own touches and things that she likes.

One of the things that makes this more of 'Leah's Style' is the lovely collection of miniature animals that she has. I am sure in the long run there will be more of these tiny cute ceramic animals. I have to say I like the way she has displayed them. The girl loves animals.

Another Leah's touch is the vacuum cleaner. The girl demanded to have a vacuum cleaner just like mummy's. When she was a couple of years younger, while I vacuumed the carpets and she would be around, I would vacuum her home slippers while they were on her feet. I remember she used to laugh a lot when I did that to her. So here is Mr. Hatty to happens to be yellow just like my own vacuum cleaner. Mr. Hatty tends to move all over The Traditional dolls house now and then when Leah is around.

Saturday morning, Leah came with me to My Miniature World very early and she wanted to take a tour around my own dolls houses. I don't mind it at all. So just like all the tours that we have she started with J.R. Art Gallery. She loved going through the paintings and asked questions about them. Finally she asked me a specific question "Can we have some paintings in my dolls house?"

Obviously without thinking twice, I agreed. After all, the Traditional Dolls House still needed frames for the walls. I asked her to see if there was anything from the gallery that she wanted. The good girl as she is went through the framed paintings. I knew that this was going to be hard for her to choose from. Besides J.R. Art Gallery didn't hold any paintings that a six year old would go for.

After a few minutes I heard her exclaim with excitement that she found one. I went back to her again to see what she liked from the gallery. To my surprise she wasn't looking at the gallery but the artist's private quarters. For a second I thought she would go for the 'Unfinished Ballerina' but then I saw her tiny finger pointing at the top of the artist bed and there was the 'Blue Angel' by Marc Chagall.

Both of us headed to my computer and we googled Marc Chagall and more paintings by the artist popped up. Leah loved them all and she picked a few of her favorite including the Blue Angel. We got to down size a few and printed them to fit the miniature frames.

I showed Leah how to cut and frame the pictures and with a little help she managed to frame seven printed pictures for her dolls house.

I think she did a great job. And as she calls it, 'The Unicorn!' was placed it in the Study on top of the desk.

As most kids now a days, Leah loves pretty much computers and music and so these had to be a must in her dolls house. The nice thing about it that on the computer screen Leah still wanted to keep the blog page of Posy called 'Posy the Tiny Bear' I asked if she wanted to change it but she wanted to keep Posy there. After all Leah is another fan of the little bear.

There will definitively be more additions to the room and The Traditional Dolls House is far from ready. I want Leah to take her time to do the house and learn to appreciate it more. I know she loves it very much and that is fine with me.

This is all for today, I hope you have enjoyed the new update on The Traditional Dolls House. There will be more updates on the house in time so make sure to keep a look out for Leah's progress. In the mean time keep tuned for more updates from me.

Continuing with The Traditional Dollshouse

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all well. Finally I am going to share with you some more works on The Traditional Dolls house. The building is now complete.

The Traditional Dolls House
I continued where I left off. I have wall papered, floored and added the lights to the study, the main bedroom and the nursery.

I like the combination of colors used for the whole house.

I added a few accessories to the front, to make it look more like the 'Classical' dolls house with the door portico and wood strips.

The inside of the front was wall papered according to the rooms and I have added the curtains.

When everything was ready and the fronts were hinged, the girls Leah and Raquel started adding the furniture pieces and accessories.

I totally enjoy watching them play together and discussing how they are going decorate the rooms.

I will be sharing with you how they have decorated the rooms later on, so make sure to keep tuned for the next updates.

Take Care and See You Soon.

The Traditional Dolls House - The Bathroom

Hello Everyone,

Here we are once again! Hope you all had a great weekend and started the new year as you hoped for.

I have continued working from where I left off last year, and worked on Leah's dolls house 'The Traditional'.  The little girl is very eager for her dolls house so today we spent the afternoon working on the bathroom.

The Bathroom
As the basement was complete, we started working on the four roomed house, which will have a bathroom, a study, a bedroom and a nursery.  Leah wanted to start working on the bathroom.

The first thing to work on was the flooring for both the bathroom and the study as both rooms are combined.

Leah had picked up a nice wall paper for her bathroom, which I totally agreed with her on that.  The little girl was so attentive at what mummy was doing while pasting the flooring and wall paper.

When the walls were all done, we chose a ceiling light. I showed her a couple of lights that I had and being the girl that she is, she went for a pink ceiling light. I have to admit it does look nice in the room and with a couple of pink additions like towels, soaps and maybe even the carpet, they will blend in nicely with the wall paper.

The room still needs it's skirting and cornice but Leah insisted that she wanted to try her bathroom set. I gave her the box with the bathroom pieces and she was really happy adding the set to the room.

Seeing Leah adding the pieces to the room made me happy but what really made my heart skip a beat when I saw her looking at the room briefly and changing the position of the bathroom set in different places. I could see that she wasn't happy with her first setting, so she studied the room and tried again. That would definitely be me or any other miniaturist I would say. So here I am beaming with pride.

I have to admit she did an amazing job.

We have taken some points of what we would be needing for the bathroom. I gave her a few ideas what we could add. I had a couple of towels just to add for the time being and she was happy with it.

Both Leah and I are very happy with the outcome and I am looking forward to continue working on the other rooms with her.

This is all for today. I hope you like the new bathroom. Keep tuned for the next update on the Traditional Dolls house.

The Basement for The Traditional Dolls House

Hello everyone,

How are you all? It's been a while since my last post. What's new! I have been busier than ever. I had less time to work on this project than I hoped for. Between orders for clients and  preparing for Christmas I am also working on two room boxes; so you can imagine how my time is being consumed.

Little Leah decided to go for a classical but modern dolls house I would say. I can understand that for a six year old she would like to have a dolls house which is similar to her own house. Knowing her own mother's tastes and living in a classical decorated house, there was no way we were going for an ultra modern house.

So far we have started decorating the rooms of the basement. These will be turned into a living room and into a kitchen. Choosing the wall paper was easy. Thank goodness the girl has my tastes and didn't go for flashy bright colors.

We started off by wallpapering the walls and the floor. For the kitchen we choose a light blue paper with yellow poppies and for the living room we choose another floral pattern with a pastel green background. For the flooring; as one room leads to the other without a proper door, all rooms will be decorated with parquet wood paper

Next came the lights for both rooms. A simple lamp shade for both rooms I would say, but suited them nicely. As lights are thought before hand,  I wanted to surprise Leah by adding an extra outdoor lantern next to the outside door of the basement. I am sure she will like it once it is lit.

With the rooms pretty much done except for the skirting and cornice, I tried a few pieces of furniture that I had stashed for years and was sure that I wouldn't use for any of my projects, though I am sure Leah will love them.

There will be more details and accessories added to the rooms but this will only be done under the supervision of my little girl. It's her dolls house and I want her to enjoy it.

Apart from the other rooms, I have a very important job to do. A month ago I had ordered a custom made table for the dolls house. My carpenter did an amazing job. Now I have to paint it to match the dolls house and add the knobs for the drawer. Last Sunday Leah and I purchased more paint for the table and also chose the knobs together.

This is all for today. I hope you like what we have been doing on this project. It's great to share a dolls house and my hobby with my little girl. Let's hope that the same passion will grow within her.

Keep tuned for the next update.

Take Care and See You Soon.

Finishing the Outside of The Traditional Dolls House

Hello everyone,

Hope you all had a great weekend. I have really worked hard during this past week on my miniature orders, on the progress on The Traditional Dolls House and today I also started taking some points on my new project 'Pembroke Grange' which will be having a Regency Period Style.

I am pleased to say that the outside of the 'Traditional' Dolls House is complete.

Before I left for The Netherlands, I have left this project with one side of the roof tiled and painted. Once I settled back, I continued working on the roof.

The roof took exactly 400 roof slates. Once those were fixed and painted throughout. I have weathered them a little to give the roof more detail.

The Traditional Dolls House kit never had any chimney pots just like 'Rose Cottage' but I wanted four chimney pots placed on the chimney stacks. I order the chimney pots from the Dolls House Emporium to mach the brand of the house.

The house was pretty much ready only for the last few details on the front of the house. 'The Classical' Basement came with decorative wooden strips to its front just to match with 'The Classical' Dolls House. 'The Traditional' dolls house never came with those strips, not even the updated kit 'The Park House'. I had two choice; one was to totally eliminate the decorative wall strips from the basement or add  the wooden strips on 'The Traditional' dolls House. You can imagine what I have opted for.

Indeed 'The Traditional' Dolls House adopted its new decorative wall strips from 'The Classical' Dolls House. It wasn't easy to find the exact type of wood strip measurements, like the ones that came with the basement. It was just 1 mm difference from the width and depth  but to me it didn't look neat, so I also changed the wood pieces of the basement to match with the dolls house.

I am very happy how it turned out. Here are few pictures of the finished 'Traditional' dolls house from the outside.

Can't wait to start adding the lights, wall paper and flooring to the house, so then little Leah can decorate it, the way she wants.

I am so looking forward to start preparing to work on my new project too. Very excited and nervous at the same time.

Keep tuned for the next updates on 'The Traditional' Dolls House.

Take Care and See You Soon.
