Starting the Princesses' Room Interior - FTMM Tower

Hello Everyone,

How are you? Hope you are all well. Well I have been quite busy like usual with my everyday life, dolls houses and now with my Etsy mini shop. I have added some polymer clay miniatures and hopefully will be adding some more by this weekend.

I also wanted to welcome two new followers of my blog; Victoria Stitch and Wyrna Christensen. WELCOME!

Today I wanted to share with you some more of my progress on the Fairy Tale Magical Mystery Tower. Believe me folks this project is not easy. I just realized that the smaller the project is the more difficult it gets. The rooms being so tiny, you can't add the miniatures or furniture that you would love to add. I have so much to add to it that it is definitely an impossible mission.

The Princesses' Room

Anyway I have started working on the Top floor of the tower which is the Princesses' room. I have wall papered it and made the flooring. I have added a single ceiling light fit for a princess.

As the room is in a hexagon shape and it is very small I had to do some of the furniture myself to fit in what I wanted. I have made a small fire surround made out of balsa wood and polymer clay. I have hand painted it and added a small wood stove to it.

After finishing the fire surround I started working on the Princesses' bed. This had to go a little smaller than the normal 1:12 scale bed. I had to make is slightly shorter and narrower. Like the fire surround I have made it out of balsa wood and polymer clay. Then I dressed it up with appropriate fabric. I have used a pale pink and a nice rich blue for it. Then I decided to do a canopy for the bed. I have used the same material used for the bed. At first I have chosen a pink fabric but it looked completely lost with the wall paper so I changed it to the blue fabric which looks definitely better in my opinion.

Both the bed and the fire surround where hand painted by me. So far this is how it looks. I have started working on some miniatures that I would like to add to it. I hope you all like it.

Dateman Books Competition 2012

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all well. My family and I have been very ill for the past week. It is just awful when you get sick and you have to look after small children who are sharing the same illness. Thank God that it is over. Haven't worked a lot on my project being so busy at home but I had some exciting news and I wanted to share it with you.

Last December I had entered in a small competition which was organized by Dateman Books. Dateman Books is a company which makes dolls house miniature printed books. They have all types of books; children, classics, fiction and so many more. 

Dateman Books planned to make a new miniature book, which was all about dolls houses. In order to produce this book they needed a lot of dolls house pictures. So they organized this competition world wide where one could send photos of their dolls houses. After the closing date Dateman Books selected 28 lucky photos to appear in the book. Each successful individual would receive a copy of the book when published. I gave it a try and sent my entry in the last day. I had sent a picture of my Sea View.

The new book was launched at the City Fair (from the orgainisers of The Kensington Dollshouse Festival) held at the Tower Hotel in London on the 27th January 2013 where the winners where revealed. I didn't hear from them and I forgot all about it.

A few days ago I got a small envelope in my mail. I didn't even realized from whom it was. I was so surprised to find this little dolls house book and then it clicked. I was one of those lucky winners that had their dolls house picture published in the miniature book.

I am  so proud that my name and my country have been mentioned in this lovely book. I have been  so thrilled to see my dolls house published with other dolls houses from all over the world.

Fairy Tale Tower - Plastering outside

Hello folks,

Hope you are all well and keeping warm. Here in Malta it's getting a bit colder but we are still having lovely sunny days. 

This past week I have been busy opening My Miniature World Shop at Esty and now I can say that it is officially open. I still need to add more items especially my polymerclay minis. So far it's going well and I had a couple of sales. 

I also want to welcome 2 new followers to my Blog; my dear friends Frenchy Bullen and Christine Whyte. Welcome!

The out side of the Tower

 It took me quite some time to finish the outside of the tower. I have plastered the building with polyfiller and have formed a piece of foil into a brick shape where I indented some areas of the building. When it dried up I gave the brick shaped are an undercoat of grey paint.

Then I plastered the second coat of polyfiller to the building. This time I have made the finishing a bit more rougher and I didn't cover the brick effect. I wanted to achieve the effect of a weathered damaged building where you can see the outside plastering being peeled off from the bricks. When the second coat was dried completely I painted the building in a creamy color and painted the brick effect in acrylic colors. I have also dirtied the lower parts in green and around the bricks in a mustard color.

I never thought that it would turn out as good as it came out. I am very pleased. It took me 5 days to complete. I hope that you like it too.

There is still so much to do inside. So please keep tuned as I will be updating you very soon with some miniatures for this fairy tale dwelling.

Fairy Tale Magical Mystery Tower

Hello my dear friends,

How are you? Hope everyone is well and warm. I have been really busy in these past weeks. I have been preparing my ETSY mini shop and trying to manage with my every day life. I will be letting you know when the shop will be open. I also wanted to welcome a new follower to my blog. Welcome Julie! 

I have started my next project the Magical Mystery Tower. This is also a Dolls house Emporium kit which has been discontinued.

It is two room tower without any staircase and quite small. I won't be making any alterations to it. This tower is going to be based on most of Disney's Fairy Tales like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and Tangled. As a child they where my favorite tales and movies. Tangled came out recently but I still like watching it with my kids. On my honeymoon I had gone to Disney World and the Magical Kingdom was the first place that I visited. It was a dream come true to go there. I felt like a child once again. A place that I will never forget.

So first I started building the tower. Then I continued by painting the roof and it's base. For both the base and the roof  firstly I gave them a base grey color then for the roof I brushed painted some pink paint. For the base I also brushed painted with green and two shades of brown paint . I am really pleased with their effect. I have also painted the windows and the door.

The ground floor is going to be used for the witch or hag but it's going to be a little bit spooky and dark where enchantments happen. The top room is going to be where the princess stays.

I have also gave and undercoat of paint  to the whole tower and so far this is how it looks. There is still a lot of work to do on the out side and still lots of work to do in the inside.

Hand Painted Miniature Display

Hello my dear friends,

How are you? Hope that you are all well. Firstly I wish you and your loved ones a Prosperous New Year 2013. I still can't believe that Christmas came and gone already. I want to welcome three new followers of my blog; Petite Pursuits, Sylvia Ryan and Tere. WELCOME! I can't believe that I actually have 52 followers. It is very encouraging.

Today I wanted to share with you something that my father and I have been working on for the few past months. I had this empty miniature display box that I really didn't know what I was going to do with it. Then I had this great idea to display my father's hand painted miniatures. After seeing the lovely hand painted miniatures that he painted for me for the past projects, I knew that this was going to be spectacular.  This display means a lot to me as every little piece means so much to me especially knowing that they have been hand painted by my father just for me. They will always be treasured.

Since he was young, my father always loved building and painting aircraft, war tanks and ship models. He still enjoys this amazing hobby so I know for certain that he will bring out every little detail of these unpainted white metal miniatures. I don't even bother to tell him in which color I want them and I am always surprised and fascinated when I see the finished miniatures. He completely  leaves me speechless. 

Well I started first by wall papered the back and also added some floor paper to it. Then I ordered some white metal miniatures from Phoenix Model Developers and gave them to my darling father for him to paint. When he finishes them, I give him some more. We really enjoy adding to it.  It takes a lot of time, dedication, patience and a steady hand to paint each little miniature. The pictures don't bring any justice to the real thing as every detail and shadow are there to see.

I am still adding to this lovely display.  We have also been selling some of these miniatures on commission bases in which color the customer request them. Today I have also listed a few ready made items on ebay. At the moment there are these lovely items for sale which you can find their listing on the right hand side of my blog.

Simple Christmas Angel Mantel Piece Miniature

Dear Friends,

Christmas Eve! Are you all prepared for the big day? Kids are very excited as Santa is coming tonight. I am also happy as we are celebrating Leah's first Christmas. 

Today as a little treat I wanted to post a  simple Christmas Tutorial that I did. It is a Christmas decoration that I have done and placed it in my Santa's Work Shop 

To make this simple mantel piece you need:

1. Small pointed scissors
2. Paint brush
3. Tooth Pick
4. Glue
5.  Tape
6. Glossy varnish (or clear nail polish)
7. Transparent Red Polymer Clay (Fimo)
8. 4 golden 5mm beads
9. Miniature holly garland or leaves
10. Silver (mirror) Card board
11. Tick Golden card board
12. Jewelry wire (dark shade)

Step 1.

Take a piece of the transparent red polymer clay and roll a log of around 6mm tick. Then cut the log in 3 parts in different sizes (approx 25mm, 20mm, 13mm long.) The sizes are there to give an indication.

 Step 2.

With the end of  the paint brush, push in slightly one of the ends of the clay piece. Make sure the piece remains straight and round and the edge of the candle is nicely shaped. This is to make the candle looked used.

You can also dent the edge of the candle by using the point of a tooth pick.

Take the jewelry wire and cut three pieces. These are to be placed in the center of each candle to make the wick.

 After this bake the clay for 30 minutes on low heat or follow the guide lines of your Fimo pack.

 When the clay has cooled down, varnish the top of the candles twice. This will make the effect of melted wax. Let the varnish dry. There your candles are ready/ 

 Step 3.

Cut the Angels using the template provided. You can print the angels on your silver cardboard. On the back of one of the angels stick a piece of wire with a small piece of tape. Then stick the two angels back to back so the silver shaped angels are outwards. You can also use a silver ink felt pen to go around the edges.

 Cut a rectangle (approx 30mm x 25mm) from the thick golden cardboard, This is for the base. Stick the angel in the centre by bending the wire 90 degrees. Leave a little space between the angel and the base. Stick the wire from the angel to the base with some tape. Then stick the candles in a triangle formation keeping the small candle in front of the angel and the other two behind the angel at the sides.

When the glue is set stick the little piece of holly garland or leaves around the candles and angel. Then add the golden beads to the holly  garland with some glue to decorate. You can decorate it as you like.

At this point your miniature mantel piece is ready. Hope you enjoyed it and find this tutorial useful..
